Searching for a new trustee
Would you like to become more involved in the life of the school? We are looking for a new Friends of Reay Trustee.
What does the role of trustee involve?
Trustees oversea everything the charity does, from setting its strategy to being responsible for its work and finances:
- The roles include steering the direction of the charity according to its memorandum.
- They are also legally responsible to challenge unfair and potentially illegal decisions made by the committee.
- You will also be required to oversee one specific working group (Class Reps/Events/ Comms) and represent them in committee meetings.
- Trustees are required to attend all committee and general meetings (AGM/EGM) where reasonably possible.
Who can apply?
Anyone aged 18 or over can be a charity trustee, and you must be a parent or carer for a child at the school
There is no requirement for you to have an understanding of the charity / education system, just the necessary skills, character and time to contribute.
Trustees have a legal duty to act in the best interests of the charity. They must not put themselves in any position where their duties as trustee may conflict with any personal interest they may have.
Why become a trustee?
As a volunteer you will have responsibilities but being a trustee is a rewarding way to make a difference.
As a trustee you’ll develop new skills and experience while contributing your ideas and knowledge to the school charity.
What will be expected of me?
The average time commitment is about two hours per month, although it vary depending on the needs of the charity. The includes meetings, reading material before /after meetings.
There is no set term for being a trustee, as a volunteer you can resign if your circumstances change. This is a voluntary role and therefore it is not paid.
What happens next?
If you want to learn more you are welcome to have an informal chat with an existing trustee, simply email secretary@friendsofreay.org.uk to let us arrange this.
If you apply, your application will be looked at by the current charity members and a decision made. You will be contacted by a member of the charity to let you know whether you have been successful or not.
